Pondering

Hey,

Can we talk about wearing white after Labor Day? πŸ€”

Every year, this hits me about the same time - I'm in my closet and reach for a sundress or my white shorts and I realize it's not technically "summer" anymore. And then I go into "doing it right" mode and stand there and ponder whether I should wear the damn thing anyway.

Seriously? I'm a grown-ass woman - I can wear whatever I want!

But it's the "doing it right" thing I really want to talk about here. That's a pattern. A really OLD pattern that roots all the way down to the belief that "I don't know how to BE". I can remember that feeling as a child - always comparing, always measuring myself against what everyone else seemed to already know, rather than trusting what felt true for me.

I know exactly where it came from and it's probably why I do this work today - because subtle moments and messages can root beliefs just as deeply as the big, traumatic ones. We tend to blow past them and they just keep keeping us stuck.

When I'm standing there in my closet, it's not my adult that's pondering - it's her. Today, my adult is the one who shows up for her and reminds her who she IS.

Obviously, this isn't about an outfit. πŸ˜‰ It's about a sacred shift that happens on the inside and changes everything on the outside.

Is there some place in your life you're still pondering?

Hey there, Happy Fall! 🍁 I'm on Kaki duty this week in Fort Worth while my daughter and SIL are on vacation. Every morning I take my grandgirl to pre-school - same route, takes about 15 minutes, we've got it down! This morning, there was an unexpected line of cars leaving the neighborhood, so I put it in Maps just to be sure I didn't get caught up in something I couldn't see. Sure enough, it took me a completely different way - weaving through neighborhoods I've never been through. At one...

I just got back from a 4-day cruise with 5 of my Soul Sisters - girlfriends who've known each other most of our life, some since kindergarten. That's a long time when you're 65. πŸ˜‰ There's something so comforting about being with your "no matter what" people - the ones who KNOW you and still love you, flaws and all. The ones who hold the mirror up to parts of ourselves WE don't even like sometimes, so we can heal a little more. All of those things happened on this trip - some were quiet little...

Or don't. I love you either way. #YouDoYou #ILoveYourRestingBitchface #REALIsTheNewBeautiful This photo popped up in my facebook memories yesterday. I think my irreverent pose + defiant caption speak volumes. 😊 I can so remember my mom telling me to smile when I was a kid, as if NOT smiling was unacceptable. Translated, that meant if I wasn't or didn't appear happy, I was unacceptable. This is one place codependency and people pleasing take root: the external validation of our internal state...
