When you've had enough of JUST enough

Hey there, Happy Fall! 🍁

I'm on Kaki duty this week in Fort Worth while my daughter and SIL are on vacation. Every morning I take my grandgirl to pre-school - same route, takes about 15 minutes, we've got it down!

This morning, there was an unexpected line of cars leaving the neighborhood, so I put it in Maps just to be sure I didn't get caught up in something I couldn't see. Sure enough, it took me a completely different way - weaving through neighborhoods I've never been through.

At one point, my Maps girl told me to turn left which felt completely counter-intuitive to my internal GPS. For a hot second I argued with her, and then she reminded me how directionally challenged I am and how that NEVER works out the way I think it will. 😂 I acquiesced and we got to school 2 minutes earlier than we usually do. Well done, Maps girl - well done. 👏

So of course now I'm thinking about the significance of this on so many other levels - how our ego jumps in to keep us on track when things are unfamiliar, usually taking us down a path that doesn't work out very well. We can be writhing in emotional pain, reach out for help, and then just keep doing the same things over and over.

WHY DO WE DO THAT?

Because "familiar is predictable and predictable is safe". That's the ego's mantra and it's just doing what it believes is best.

At some point, we - our True self - has to do a reality check. We have to look honestly at whether or not what we're doing is working for us, HAS worked for us is the past, and if the results are what we most desire. Or do we just keep settling for what we know (or think we know) and wondering why we always feel so stuck?

For a lot of people it's the latter and that's usually when they find me. They've had enough of JUST enough and they're ready to get their life back. Emotional trauma or betrayal has dragged something painful to the surface and the familiar coping isn't working, because this is at the root, not the surface. And that's why this work WORKS. Because we start at the root.

I just got back from a 4-day cruise with 5 of my Soul Sisters - girlfriends who've known each other most of our life, some since kindergarten. That's a long time when you're 65. 😉 There's something so comforting about being with your "no matter what" people - the ones who KNOW you and still love you, flaws and all. The ones who hold the mirror up to parts of ourselves WE don't even like sometimes, so we can heal a little more. All of those things happened on this trip - some were quiet little...

Or don't. I love you either way. #YouDoYou #ILoveYourRestingBitchface #REALIsTheNewBeautiful This photo popped up in my facebook memories yesterday. I think my irreverent pose + defiant caption speak volumes. 😊 I can so remember my mom telling me to smile when I was a kid, as if NOT smiling was unacceptable. Translated, that meant if I wasn't or didn't appear happy, I was unacceptable. This is one place codependency and people pleasing take root: the external validation of our internal state...

Hey, Did you know that how you put your shoes and socks on reveals something about you? No? Well, that's because it doesn't. Whether you're a socks first then shoes, or a sock-shoe, sock-shoe person - it doesn't mean a damn thing about you. It's a just a pattern you learned along the way. But now you're gonna think about it every time to put your shoes on. You. Are. Welcome. 😂 The same is true of any pattern we have - it's something we do, not who we are. We were either taught to do it...
