People could count on me

Hey Reader,

Does this sound familiar?

I was 3 years post-divorce with a lot of good work behind me, ready to get back to my life - and I was completely STUCK.

Why was I so good at helping other people, but I couldn't figure out what was blocking ME?

I'd second-guess myself constantly. Replay conversations. Spend way more energy managing how someone else might feel than actually asking mySELF how I felt.

I was smart and capable and I could handle a lot. And - I'd completely stopped trusting myself.

30 years of this work and my own life experience has taught me that being strong and capable doesn't mean you don't need support or that you've got everything figured out. You can be really good at reading other people and still not hear the part of yourself that's screaming for your attention. 🙋‍♀️

That part of you doesn't need more criticism. She needs someone to help her find her way home.

Has it ever felt easier to show up for everyone else than to even know what you needed yourself? I'd love to know more about that.

Kate 💗

Hey Reader, I love this time of year! Not just the pumpkins and cooler air, but the "letting go" energy it brings. Trees don't negotiate with their leaves - they just know when it's time to let them go. Apparently, it was time for mine to let go of a bazillion acorns, too. 😒 But seriously, I've been thinking about that a lot this week. About the things we hold onto past their time. The stories, the patterns, the beliefs about ourselves that took root in our pain that we never thought to...

Hey, And hello Monday! I've got a two things can be true at the same time story: So, I've had "List Dot" on my calendar every day for months - which meant, post my sweet little vintage VW convertible for sale. She's a '74 and I've had her since my oldest daughter graduated from high school in 2007 - my "just because I wanted her" gift to myself. I loved tootling around to run errands, or taking my middle-schooler and friends to TP the boys' houses. (don't judge - we got TP'd plenty 😂) We had...

Hey Reader, A few days ago I shared what happened on the highway - that big-ass truck that pushed us out of my lane into oncoming traffic. Thank God we're still here. And thank you for holding that space for me.🙏 In the old days, I would've shoved that trauma down deep with the whole "well, at least we didn't die", or "yeah, but we're okay now, so let's move on". And that's where it would have stayed - down deep - in my nervous-system, wreaking havoc. I know better now, but that's what most...
